Catherine Chandler comes from a rich family. She works for her father at his law firm. Her life is full of people that are nothing more than acquaintences. She feels as if everything in her life is superficial. While at yet another party she decides to just leave. As she is walking through the park she is mistaken for someone else and is pulled into a van full of thugs. They slash her face and beat her up, then they push her out of the van and leave her for dead. A shadowy figure appears and carries her to secret set of forgotten tunnels below the city.
