Building work on Belsay Hall, Northumberland, began exactly one hundred years ago, in 1810, taking 7 years to complete. It was the brainchild of Sir Charles Monck, and designed by architect John Dobson. Today it is just an empty shell, and the only work that is done to it is purely structural, but downstairs the remains of the Greek style pillars can still be seen. Tonight the team head to the English/Scottish border and Carlisle Castle.Most famous for having Mary Queen of Scots imprisoned within it's walls in 1568, the castle switched hands between the English and Scottish many times over it's long history.Once used as a prison and barracks for the military, it still houses, to this day, the headquarters of a Royal Regiment. Gregynog Hall is situated in Powys, mid-Wales, and has been passed through many hands throughout the years.
