George More O'Ferrall has assembled a really strong cast for his adaptation of Wynyard Browne's emotionally rich play. It all centres around a Christmas family gathering at the home of "Rev. Martin" (Ralph Richardson). As with every such get-together, it becomes a little fraught as his children "Jenny" (Celia Johnson), "Margaret" (Margaret Leighton) and "Michael" (Denholm Elliott) congregate and their not immediately cogent personalities soon start to show through their veneer of politeness. Thing is, they are all still trying to deal with the psychological impact left upon them - and their extended family - following the horrors of the Second World War. To be honest, it can border on the melodramatic at times and it also struggles a bit when Richardson is off screen, but somehow as it advances this story starts to glow a little. The characters have a certain degree of truthfulness as they develop - and made in 1952, many of the supposed scenarios being recalled and dealt with by all concerned do ring true somewhat. There are a tightly knit series of domestic scenarios here that allow each to offer us a glimpse of their childhood resentments, aspirations, dreams, frustrations and loves - Johnson being especially effective as the daughter who is in love with "Paterson" (a slightly static John Gregson) but remains committed to stay at home and "look after" their father - whether he wants her to or not! It has a degree of nostalgia to it, but not in an overly sentimental fashion. They reminisce, as we would have been invited to do at the time, but there is still enough contemporary joy from this Christmas together to offer glimmers of light and hope at a conclusion that probably resonated well with a new reign in the UK at the time. It's short, hardly eighty minutes, and does pack in plenty of characterful performances and offers us just a little food for thought too.
After country music starlet Tess Stapleton’s album sales keep dropping, her label forces her to record a Christmas album with ex-teen heartthrob and pop-star, Derek Copeland, in an attempt to resurrect each’s career. Reluctantly, Tess agrees. At first, they appear to be polar opposites; clashing over song styles and irritated that they were forced together. However, to their combined surprise, as the album shapes up, they find themselves growing closer over their shared love of music. As they finish the album sparks begin to fly and love blooms just in time for Christmas.
Christmas in the charming town of Briar Falls will be bittersweet this year when architect Nell goes back to her hometown having been given the job of turning the historic Majestic Playhouse into a modern multiplex, much to the town’s objections. The Playhouse has been home to their annual Christmas tableaux, which will now have to end after a long and historic tradition to the town. This job is Nell’s first promotion, and one she wishes she hadn’t been chosen for, especially when she meets the new owner of the theater, Connor, whose vision and ideas clash with Nell’s. Since Connor hasn’t had much experience celebrating Christmas, Nell hopes that if she can give him a crash course in Christmas during the town’s Twelve Day Festival, that he might just change his mind about modernizing the Majestic.

Alec, who has never had many people have faith in him, opens up when Zoey invests trust in him, and the two find themselves falling for each other. Could they both find happiness in the most unlikely of circumstances right before Christmas?

Alex, Fedja, Timo and Lara are four troubled teens for whom the upcoming Christmas eve isn't a time of peace and joy: Since they all have a history of escalating family conflicts, they'll be spending the holidays not at home, but in a psychiatric ward. The utterly different adolescents not only have to adjust to one another, but also have to confront themselves in exhausting therapy sessions.
