Freedom of Space: Skateboard Culture and the Public Space

A child who just loved to skate from the age of eight, Poppy Starr Olsen became the number one female bowl skater in Australia at 14 and went on to take out bronze at the XGames at 17 - the ultimate competition in the world of skateboarding. The same year, skateboarding was announced as an official additional sport category at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Now faced with the opportunity to represent Australia on the world stage Poppy grapples with the transition from skater to athlete and the pressure of competition mounts in a way it has never done before.

The End is a 1998 Tony Hawk skateboarding film from Birdhouse Skateboards. It was made under the direction of Jamie Mosberg, who also produced and edited it. The original movie was released in 1998, but the movie was re-released in 2001.

Then there was Duane. The Duane Peters life story video, "Who Cares?" presented by Red Kross Skateboards a division of Black Label. Stabbed, beaten, broken, and bloodied, Duane Peters has definately paid his dues. He's invented more tricks than he can remember and done things few will ever forget. To this day, his style is unapologetically OLD SCHOOL, and you can bet he doesn't give two O'Henrys what anyone thinks. When PUNK ROCK and Skateboarding met, true chaos emerged, and Skateboarding was never the same. Stabbed, beaten, broken and bloodied, Duane Peters has definitely paid his dues. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, skateboarding and hip-hop culture collide in downtown Manhattan. Archival footage from the era showcases the fusion of these two forms of expression.

Video Days is a skateboarding video by Blind Skateboards released in 1991.

The film focuses on skaters from Carazinho, Rio Grande do Sul, and their only skatepark. It exposes, through interviews and tracking shots, the DIY approach taken by them due to the local government's inability to provide decent parks.
