A handsome young man begins a relationship with an unpopular young woman, whose pairing grows rocky as a series of unforeseen events occur.

The plot centers on two competing production centers. One is led by an angel, the other by a demon. Each of them fights for worldly souls, using the potential of creative people. The first is guided by the principle of self–improvement, the second by momentary profit.

The film is based on the complex intersections of human destinies during the Patriotic War. The family of the headmaster of the school, Turlyzhan Zhanakov, with their participation and care for disadvantaged people, show the high moral values inherent in Kazakhs. The house by the salt lake became a home for immigrants and evacuees and became a kind of Noah's Ark for the post-war future.
