Radha and Suraj have been friends since childhood. Gopal has been in love with Radha ever since they spent a few years together as kids. Years later, Gopal's guardian proposes to Radha a marriage with Gopal, and she accepts.

While waiting at Attari Railway Station circa 1968, Rajveer Singh and his wife, Amrit Kaur, recall the turbulent years of partition, how they fled from their hometown in Lahore, and of being separated from their only son, Ehsaan. They arrive near Amritsar and take over the vacant house of Pervez Shahbudin - with it's lone occupant, a male child, left behind by his parents. Amrit gets to adopt him after Rajveer is unable to locate his parents, and they call him Ehsaan - who soon grows up to excel in studies and sports. On a trip to Kashmir, he meets with and falls in love with Chandni rather dramatically, and is overjoyed to learn that she also is from Amritsar.

Delhi-based CBI Captain Neetu Singh is instructed by Chief Sawant to investigate the assassination of Maharashtra's Chief Minister Satyaprakash. Her investigations will lead her to conclude that the killing was planned and carried out by Home Minister Bhavani Prasad Lala and Superintendent of Police Waghmare. She meets Hussain in prison and decides to assist him, but before she could do that she and her mother, Shanti, both end up on the defensive, when evidence surfaces that Neetu had hired a hit-man, Tatya, to kill Satyaprakash. The Judge hearing this incident finds her guilty and sentences her to prison.
