Jack and Caroline are a couple making a decent living when Jack suddenly loses his job. They agree that he should stay at home and look after the house while Caroline works. It's just that he's never done it before, and really doesn't have a clue...

Swedish efficiency researchers come to Norway for a study of Norwegian men, to optimize their use of their kitchen. Folke Nilsson (Tomas Norström) is assigned to study the habits of Isak Bjørvik (Joachim Calmeyer). By the rules of the research institute, Folke has to sit on an umpire's chair in Isak's kitchen and observe him from there, but never talk to him. Isak stops using his kitchen and observes Folke through a hole in the ceiling instead. However, the two lonely men slowly overcome the initial post-war Norwegian-Swede distrust and become friends.

Complications ensue after a radio producer insults a sponsor.

Trouble begins when a hated cad of a sponsor is found murdered during the climax of a live radio show. A radio engineer then tries to solve the murder.

Blessed with a keen sense of smell and cursed with a philandering pornographer husband, a parasitic mother, and a pair of delinquent children, the long-suffering Francine Fishpaw turns to the bottle as her life falls apart - until deliverance appears in the form of a hunk named Todd Tomorrow.

Louise, who has just written a novel, comes to Paris to meet with a potential publisher. While in the city, she stays with her older sister, Martine, who in many ways is the exact opposite of Louise: she lives in a fashionable neighborhood, is cold to others, and has snobby friends, while Louise lives in a small town and is thoroughly unpretentious. Louise's apparent happiness - and similarities to their mother - gradually gets on Martine's nerves.

Birds present their own radio broadcasting service, featuring feathered versions of such stars as Bing Crosby, Jack Benny, Fred Allen, Rudy Vallee, Eddie Cantor, Ed Wynn, and many others.

Complications ensue when an overworked couple decides to hire a "wife" — someone who can run the household for them with complete autonomy — but she's a little too attractive for comfort.

Chaos ensues when two former college friends, one a housewife and the other the editor of a hip women's magazine, decide to swap lifestyles between them.
