Pretty as a Picture: The Art of David Lynch

A film tribute to the inspirational Jonas Mekas.

When David Lynch was making his film Blue Velvet, German filmmaker Peter Braatz was also on set, shooting documentary footage with a Super 8 film camera. Now, on Blue Velvet's 30th anniversary, Braatz presents his footage, along with still photographs, as a "meditation" on Lynch's work.

The animate body as a medium for the celebration of life is on display as a young Jane Korman dances with her parents and their friends, all of whom are Holocaust survivors, in an Australian forest.

Stanislaw Ignacy Witkiewicz, better known as Witkacy, enivsages the future horrors of the Polish nation, as embodied by Stalin and Hitler, and the world collapsing into chaos.
