The story of “Empire Symbol” is quiet dramatic and it is called Chinese “The Da Vinci Code”: a group of people seems unrelated-- an auto mechanic Cheng Xi (acted by Pan Yueming), a policewoman Mei Jia (acted by Hu Ke) and a Japanese archaeologist Xiao Yelingzi (acted by Yi Nengjing), they are bonded by an invaluable empire treasure of Ming Dynasty. With the mystery is solved, everyone starts a hunt for love, fortune and power.

Set in Bangkok's Chinatown in the 1940's this film is about two secret society's that hate each other. Ang Yee is a senior member of one of them. He is also a trained martial arts expert and in a show at a Chinese temple during a festival, real swords are used between both gangs shocking the audience that runs away as fast as they can.

When a Chinese-Canadian college student returns home to Toronto, she visits a Hong Kong cafe she frequented during her childhood. Engineer Jake Holman arrives aboard the gunboat USS San Pablo, assigned to patrol a tributary of the Yangtze in the middle of exploited and revolution-torn 1926 China. His iconoclasm and cynical nature soon clash with the 'rice-bowl' system which runs the ship and the uneasy symbiosis between Chinese and foreigner on the river. Hostility towards the gunboat's presence reaches a climax when the boat must crash through a river-boom and rescue missionaries upriver at China Light Mission.
