The film, which unspools the connections and family drama shared between the students, complies with several aesthetic principles of Dogme 95 movement.

At first all three are happy in their new arrangement, but then the divorced fellow suddenly leaves and those remaining in the relationship become quite tense. Fortunately the fellow returns with another, more conventional fellow. Eventually the three persuade him to join them.

Bijlmer Odyssey is a romantic comedy about two young lovers who were made for each other. Lost and separated from each other in a labyrinth of high-rise flats, they become entangled in comical adventures and meet colourful locals who ultimately help them find each other again. With a nod to the classical Odyssey of Homer, this heart-warming, big-city comedy of errors provides an unusual and enchanting view of the Bijlmer, a low-income estate district on the outskirts of Amsterdam.

As the film develops, we witness the friendship between Alan and Orked flourish, to Arif’s apprehension. Perhaps because for Orked, Alan is a link to her first love.
