The Outlaw and The Breed. Billy Two Hats is directed by Ted Kotcheff and written by Alan Sharp. It stars Gregory Peck, Desi Arnaz Junior, Jack Warden, David Huddleston and Sian Barbara. Music is by John Scott and cinematography by Brian West. Interesting. Peck plays a grizzled Scottish outlaw and Arnaz Jr. the half-breed Indian of film’s title. They rob banks and have a sort of father and son relationship as they try to escape from vengeful racist Sheriff Gifford (Warden). So in essence it’s a buddy Western, albeit one that’s a bit off-beat and has grand ideas to be a religio parable of sorts. Unfortunately away from the unusual casting decisions which happen to entertain, it’s immeasurably dull on narrative terms and blandly photographed (in Israel) into the bargain. It’s not hard to see why it flopped upon release to theatres. The sporadic action passages are adequately performed, and the intentional humour hits the required mark, but by the time the boorish inter-racial relationship comes to the fore, you may find it hard to stay awake. 5/10
It's a bit bitty this western, and you do have to get past Gregory Peck's "haud yer whisht" Scots accent, but apart from those it's actually quite a solidly presented story with a good effort from all concerned. Jack Warden steals the show as the sheriff ("Gifford") pursuing "Archie" (Peck) and his half-breed sidekick "Billy" (Desi Arnaz Jr.) after they committed a robbery in which a man was - accidentally - killed. The story follows the chase - but not in a conventional sense. The balance of power frequently shifts between the pursuing and the pursued; there are some rather fancily dressed and menacing Apache on the warpath (for whisky) and when they alight on the rather venal homesteader "Spence" (John Pearce) and his nervous wreck of a pretty young wife "Esther" (Sian Barbara Allen) there is even room for a tiny bit of romance for the young man. There is quite a strong undercurrent of racism here. The young man's heritage earns him the enmity of many, especially the rather odious "Cope" (David Huddlestone) who runs a remote outpost with his squaw (Dawn Little Sky) whom he treats little better than a chattel. Indeed, even the title of the film suggests a double standard that is writ quite large into the narrative here. There's a bit of long-distance sharp shooting, quite a bit of gentle witty repartee and though not at his best, the star has a curmudgeonly charisma that helps hold the other characters firmly in place. I hadn't heard of this film before I saw it in a cinema yesterday, and I really did quite enjoy it.
Set on the Mexican border in 1850, Bad Men of the Border was the first of seven Universal Westerns starring handsome Kirby Grant, a former singer from Montana who had earlier acted under the name Robert Stanton. The series, Universal's last attempt at competing with Republic Pictures' many streamlined B-Westerns, also featured the bucolic Fuzzy Knight as Grant's sidekick. Grant and Knight are undercover U.S. marshals tracking down a gang of counterfeiters. To their surprise, they are soon assisted by a beautiful Mexican dancehall performer, Dolores Mendoza (Armida), who proves to be an undercover agent as well, in her case for the Mexican rurales headed by Captain Garcia (Francis McDonald).
In this western, the hero fights the bad guys by impersonating the son of a rancher. The outlaws have been making the good landowners pay fake taxes. Not only does the good guy succeed in catching the bad guys, he also catches himself the postmistress.
The notorious Dalton Boys have decided to go straight and move to Argentina. Just before they leave, they learn of a friend whose land is about to be seized by a greedy land company. Before they can help, the man is killed by a company assassin. The brothers do manage to rescue his widow and head for the hills. There, they decide to revert back to outlaw life. Meanwhile, a newspaper publisher's daughter falls for one of the brothers.
A girl goes on vacation to the mountains where she finds a wild horse named Hacksaw. With a little help, she captures the stud and it doesn't take long until the man who helped her starts wagon racing, since Hacksaw refuses to have any man or woman on his back.

Based on "The Curse of Capistrano," the story that established Zorro as an international hero.
A cowboy named Clint bonds with a beautiful wild stallion that he trains, but after the two are separated and the horse ends up in a rodeo, Clint is determined to set it free.
"Wild" Bill Elliott is a cowboy who goes in search of the man who killed his brother, and finds himself in the small town of Bitter Creek.
Elmer Winslow is a soldier on the run from the Union Army, and Luke Budd is a cowboy with a broken heart. When the two misfits rob the corrupt sheriff of an old west town, they have no idea that a plague of zombies is sweeping the country, or that Geronimo's sexy niece may be their only hope of survival.
Six wanted outlaws are rounded up and captured by the Cheyenne Kid. Collecting the reward money, Cheyenne instructs his sidekick Fuzzy Q. Jones to give the money to a group of financially strapped ranchers. Alas, Fuzzy falls off his horse, loses his memory, and forgets what became of the money.
Jimmy finds a dying Ranger Braden who asks him to give his money belt to his sister. When he rides into town he finds another man claiming to be Ranger Braden. When the money belt is found in Jimmy's saddle bag, the fake Marshal tries to arrest him. But Jimmy escapes and hopes a telegram to Ranger headquarters will clear him.
