I recall seeing this film as a child, and it always made me smile. Oliver Reed is the eponymous WWII POW who has a job at a zoo in Munich looking after "Lucy". Nope, she's not a glamorous blonde - she's an elephant, and quite a stubborn one at that. As the allies close in, it's decided to evacuate "Lucy" to Austria, but when an officer commandeers their train, they decide to walk - the two, with a pair of soldiers as escort and a cook. Their escapades are light hearted adventures with Reed on good form as the recalcitrant determined to get himself and his "girl" to the safety of Switzerland. Wolfgang Preiss is quite effective as his pursuing Nazi "von Haller" exuding just a hint of menace and Michael J. Pollard pulls some quite comical stunts as escaping American "Packy" who turns his hand to sabotage at times... Aside from the affable humour, I also remembered the lightly orchestral score from Francis Lai - a memorable little theme that, as they wander through some gorgeous Germany scenery sets this up nicely. It's a fun film this, a more interesting wartime feel good film that does exactly what it (and they) set out to.
After the impressive Gulistan, Land of Roses (VdR 2016), the Kurdish filmmaker Zaynê Akyol returns with these conversations with imprisoned members of the Islamic State, alternating their words with aerial views of the countryside. An unexpected look at a far-reaching current political issue and a film whose subject matter and rhythm create an impressive cinematic object.

Nothing brings a loving family together like a friendly board game over the holidays. This is not that story.
The town of Beer Bottle Bend is so tough that the babies chew tobacco. It is run in a high, wide, and handsome manner by the owner of Riley's Saloon. There is a little church in the town built in haste many years ago but it has been securely boarded up for years. Mr. Riley intended it to remain so for his Sunday business was booming. A traveling evangelist who learned his profession as a circus performer arrives in the town with Charles Bullephant, a peevish elephant; Joe Martin, a highly-cultured orang-outang; and Buster, a famous trained horse. With help from his friends, he sets out to make Beer Bottle Bend a church-going community.
The film portrays MacArthur's life from 1942, before the Battle of Bataan, to 1952, the time after he had been removed from his Korean War command by President Truman for insubordination, and is recounted in flashback as he visits West Point.
The story of the senior-level preparations for the D-Day invasion on June 6, 1944 from the time of Dwight D. Eisenhower's appointment as the Supreme Allied Commander in Europe, to the establishment of the beachhead in Normandy.
War - In this thrilling war drama set in Yugoslavia during WWII, a small band of courageous commandoes are sent to kidnap an important German commander in exchange for an American general being held in a German fortress. "Operation Cross Eagles" is a story of suspense and intrigue that will have you on the edge of your seat one moment and blast you back the next. - Richard Conte, Rory Calhoun, Aili King
