38/79: Sentimental Punk

This feature length documentary tells the story of 1970's punk band The Gears - in their own words.

A story of five Finnish youth growing up during the devastating '90s recession. They live in the small timber industrial town of Heinola. As the parents of these young teens struggle through hard economic times, the five very different youths meet by coincidence to form the punk band Apulanta.

The final 17 years of American singer and musician Karen Carpenter, performed almost entirely by modified Barbie dolls.

"Collective Unconsciousness: The Not Dead Yet Story" explores the annual Not Dead Yet festival that takes place in Toronto. This documentary dives into what makes the festival great and the impact it makes on the city's hardcore/punk scene. "Collective Unconsciousness: The Not Dead Yet Story" also features performances from bands that played in 2015, shot up close to give the viewer the feel that they are there. Features performances by S.H.I.T., V.C.R., Power Trip, Title Fight, Career Suicide and more alongside interviews with members of Dress Code, Title Fight, I.C.E. and more.

Crash 'n' Burn is an experimental film shot in and named after Toronto, Ontario's first punk rock club. (Not to be confused with Peter Vronsky's similarly titled 1977 documentary on the Toronto punk scene made for the CBC television network.) The film, shot on 16mm black-and-white stock, features performances by Dead Boys, Teenage Head, The Boyfriends, and The Diodes".

A terrible mistake puts two best friends on a quest to reinvent themselves and overcome personal barriers to pursue their long forgotten dreams, right before the pandemic hits.

Satan Panonski, born Ivica Čuljak in 1960, was a Croatian punk musician, poet, artist and freak performer. We get to follow his performance at the Studentski Kulturni Centar, Novi Sad, visit the cult station of Radio B92, a conversation at the apartment and finally the never presented staff from the Popovača Hospital. In 1991, Čuljak joined the Croatian army in the Croatian War of Independence. He died in 1992 while still a Croatian soldier. The cause of his death is unknown. It is rumored that he died after slipping and accidentally discharging the gun he was carrying.

In the early 1970s, rubber was still king in Akron, Ohio. But just a few short years later, Akron's most important product was, ever so briefly, music. In the mid-1970s, a group of local bands took over an old rubber workers' hang-out in downtown Akron called The Crypt and created a mix of punk and art rock that came to be known as "the Akron Sound." And for a while, it was almost "the next big thing." Almost. It's Everything, and Then It's Gone, a Western Reserve PBS production written and directed by Phil Hoffman., takes viewers back to a time when the music really did mean everything. And for the men and women in these local bands, it was a way out of the factory.
