Frank Morgan is a American Supreme court Justice ("John Grant") who heads off, with his secretary, on a well earned fishing trip. When he arrives in the small town of Crown Port, he soon discovers that local lawyer "Bill Adams" (Richard Carlson) is on a bit of a crusade to clean up the corrupt town by running for mayor - and having quite a struggle at that. Anonymously, "Grant" decides to pitch in and together they try to manipulate the situation and the town's crooked judge "Harkley" (Porter Hall) to their advantage.
