From June 2021 to June 2022, Justin "Jastun" Bland records whatever that is in front of him. Toni is one of the figures who works in Klithikan flea market every day, either as a merchant or customer. His secondhand goods are those that are closely related to old papers. He often found historical documents or evidence out of the market. The klithikan’s goods are known as abandoned goods or trash. And the film talks about historical goods from trashes.
Redheads. Fire crotches… This film collects samples of their testimonials and their body hair and skin. About being different genetically, about gay gingers, doubly in a minority, from Ireland to Israel to Brazil. A film made especially for ginger lovers.
Big ambitions clash in tiny kitchens, all in the name of Singapore’s beloved hawker dish — chicken rice. Apple presents a documentary about hawker pride and conviction, set against the backdrop of the famous Maxwell Food Centre.
As with so many early films by Sokurov, this film has two dates: the first is the date of its creation (the film was then banned), the second is the date of the final edition and legal public screening. The film consists of German and Soviet archive footage of the World War II — to be exact, from the end of the war. An attempt to make a large–scale documentary on this subject had been undertaken in the Soviet cinema of the 1960s: the film — “Ordinary Fascism” — by the outstanding Soviet film–maker Mikhail Romm had become a classic retrospective investigation of fascism. But Sokurov uses the expressive power of the documentary image in an absolutely different way. He does not amass materials for a large–scale picture of Nazi crimes.
Crossing the vast outskirts of the big city we can glimpse that after the great future catastrophes there will still be room for the promise of a new youth, perhaps the last one.
