Er Housheng is a blind musician who travels Inner Mongolia with his lover/partner Liu Lanlan performing a saucy, bawdy form of musical duet comedy. Er’s female audiences are particularly enthralled with his combination of sensuality, Rabelaisian earthiness, and frankly socially subversive lyrics.

In the center of the plot of the film is a young soldier of the Ukrainian army, Andrei Sokolov, who is sent to the combat zone as a driver. Fleeing from the shelling, Andrew finds himself in the basement of a dwelling house, where he meets different people, each of whom dreams of only one thing - so that the war will end as soon as possible.

December of 1941, Northwestern Front. A German tank column is moving towards Moscow. During a mission to stop the enemy advance, Nikolai Komlev's IL-2 is shot down. Komlev manages to crash-land his plane in a remote forest clearing. He's alive, but far from friendly territory. Ahead of him is a relentless trial of severe physical and mental endurance. After battling hunger and extreme cold, evading packs of wolves and detachments of Nazi soldiers, the wounded Komlev finally makes it back to safety. But there he faces another challenge, the most life-changing of them all.

The picture tells about the feat of Russian scientists who are sent to Svalbard as part of the Russian-Swedish expedition in order to measure the actual size and shape of the globe.
