Peter Denyer

British actor famous for his sitcom roles such as Ralph Dring in Dear John, Michael in Agony and Dennis Dunstable in Please Sir and its spin-off The Fenn Street Gang. He also starred in the 1975 glam rock film Never Too Young to Rock. Peter John Denyer (20 August 1947 in Dartford – 18 September 2009 in Cheltenham) was an English actor who was perhaps best remembered for playing Dennis Dunstable in London Weekend Television's Please Sir!, and its spin-off series The Fenn Street Gang, taking on the role of a teenager when already into his 20s. He also appeared in the film versions of Please Sir! (1971) and Never Mind the Quality, Feel the Width (1973), and the glam rock film Never Too Young to Rock (1975). Another semi-regular role, again for LWT, was as one half of a gay couple in Agony. He also appeared in Dixon of Dock Green, Moody and Pegg, Dear John and the TV soap opera Emmerdale Farm. Later in his career he moved into producing, directing and writing pantomime. Denyer, who was unmarried, died in September 2009 in Cheltenham, aged 62. Mr. Hedges, the somewhat naive and idealistc teacher of the rebellious Class 5C, lobbies to have them allowed on the school camping trip despite much precedent to the contrary. Once on the camping trip Mr. Hedges pursues the local barmaid and the class indulge in their usual activities. A small feud with some stereotypical upper class children in red blazers is resolved with a false rape allegation. A case of some stolen money is resolved through Mr. Hedges trusting the class. At the final dance Mr. Hedges is ensnared in the romantic clutches of Miss Cutforth, contrary to his wishes.

Moody and Pegg

- Moody and Pegg was a bittersweet British comedy-drama, produced by Thames Television for ITV between 1974 and 1975. Derek Waring and Judy Cornwell starred in this series that accented comedy but also had moments of drama. Waring played Roland Moody, a newly divorced 42-year-old junk/antique dealer greatly anticipating freedom from matrimonial ties. Cornwell was cast as Daphne Pegg, plain spinster and dedicated civil servant in her early thirties who leaves her home in Bolton after realising that her office boss will never agree to marry her. She heads for London and a clean break, but, owing to a rogue estate agent's dealings, finds that a man - Moody - also has a valid lease arrangement for the property she acquires. Unable to work out who is the squatter, they agree to be feuding partners and share, forging a very uncomfortable situation that is exacerbated by Moody's prodigious line of visiting girlfriends. With hilarious consequences. Eventually, Moody loses in a winner-takes-all poker game and leaves, only to return in the second series. The title theme is The Free Life by prolific library music composer Alan Parker.

Agony

Michael - Agony is a British sitcom that aired on ITV from 1979 to 1981. It starred Maureen Lipman as a successful agony aunt but whose own personal life and marriage is a disaster. It was written by Len Richmond, Anna Raeburn, Stan Hey and Andrew Nickolds. It was made for the ITV network by LWT. Although a comedy, Agony sometimes dealt with issues that were seen as taboo at the time such as drug use, racism, abortion, interracial relationships, and swinging, and was the first British sitcom to portray a gay couple as non-camp, witty, intelligent and happy people. It also openly mocked the government, the ruling classes, and religion, and occasionally contained dark and dramatic storylines.

This sitcom's title refers to letters - known as "Dear John" letters - from girls to their boyfriends breaking off a relationship.
