An art film by Per Arnoldi about a wide range of things with redundant, non-functional ornamentation and banal beauty: Cakes, candies, lollipops, mechanical toys, slot machines, paper hats, masks, noses, fireworks, streamers, artificial flowers, pranks, flags and much more more. It is terrific that such ornate things are produced, on top of that by machine, and add appetizing and purchase-promoting properties to them. And in terms of beauty, this very banality can be accepted as fully as anything else. (DFI)

Two Penny Dance

The story of Juliane, a young woman who learns how to take her fate in her own hands and to trust nobody but herself. The plot is set in the Copenhagen tenements of the 1880s. Juliane is trapped in an unhappy marriage to a man who suffers extended periods of insanity. They have two children. She struggles to improve her social status, however, striving to attain the level of her two elder sisters is not easy. The great upheaval comes when she meets Otto, a smith, younger than Juliane, and in many ways her opposite. He is an ardent socialist, whereas she believes in herself. It is love at first sight when they meet and waltz on the pavement, but their passion really bursts into flame as time goes by. At last Juliane has found a man as strong-willed as she is.

Sia

The film follows 93-year-old Sia, over the course of a day - from the time the sun rises in the east until it sets in the west. But this is no ordinary day. It is her last. When Sia in the end closes her eyes it will be for the very last time. After two strange encounters with her pet parrot and cat she herself realises that this exact day will be her last. And it is with this realisation in mind that she has her two best friends over for tea in order to ask them to aid her with her final preparations. But not all goes according to plan.

Matador

Frk. Hollenberg - Matador is a Danish TV series produced and shown between 1978 and 1982. It is set in the fictional Danish town of Korsbæk between 1929 and 1947. It follows the lives of a range of characters from across the social spectrum, focusing specifically on the rivalry between the families of two businessmen: The banker Hans Christian Varnæs, an established local worthy, and social climber Mads Skjern, who arrives in town as the series opens. The name Matador was taken from the localised edition of the boardgame Monopoly, also the series' tentative English title. In addition, in contemporary Danish a "matador" is often used to describe a business tycoon, in the series referring to the character of Mads Skjern and his craftiness as a self-made entrepreneur. Directed by famed Danish film maker Erik Balling, Matador was the idea of author Lise Nørgaard who wrote the bulk of the episodes alongside Karen Smith, Jens Louis Petersen and Paul Hammerich. The series is one of the most well-known and popular examples of Danish television and represents the peak of longtime development of Danish TV drama by the public service channel Danmarks Radio. The series has become part of the modern self-understanding of Danes, partly because of its successful mix of melodrama and a distinct warm Danish humour in the depiction of characters, which were portrayed by a wide range of the most popular Danish actors at the time; but also not least because of its accurate portrayal of a turbulent Denmark from around the start of the Great Depression and through Nazi Germany's occupation of Denmark in World War II.
